The Virtue of Friday (Jumu’ah) in Islam
Friday Compared to Jewish and Christian Holy Days
Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA): I heard Allah's Messenger (PBUH) saying, We (Muslims) are the last (to come) but (will be) the foremost on the Day of Resurrection though the former nations were given the Scripture before us.
And this was their day (Friday) the celebration of which [religious ceremonies like Khutba (religious talk)], (Jumu'ah prayer etc.) was made compulsory for them but they differed about it.
So, Allah gave us the guidance for it (Friday) and all the other people are behind us in this respect: the Jews (holy day is) the following day after and the Christians (is) the day after the following day (Sunday).

Importance of Friday (Jumu’ah) in Islam
Friday is a significant day in Islam. It’s seen as a weekly celebration, almost like an Eid, and it’s regarded as the finest day when the sun rises.
On this day, Muslim men are required to attend the Jumu’ah prayer and listen to the Khutbah.
A Hadith emphasizes that Allah selected Friday to be a day of guidance for the Muslim Ummah, whereas earlier nations went astray concerning it.
Lessons from the Hadith
- Muslims hold a special place of honor. Even though Islam is the most recent religion, on the Day of Judgment, Muslims will be recognized first with blessings and respect.
- Friday stands out as a day guided by divine wisdom. Unlike Jews and Christians, who have altered their days of worship, Muslims have been given the true day for gathering and community, which is Friday.
- The Jumu’ah prayer and Khutbah play a crucial role in bringing the Ummah together, fostering both spiritual and social unity.
Friday vs. Other Religious Days
- Jews: It's Sunday that holds this significance.
- Christians: Their day of worship is Sunday.
- Muslims: Friday is seen as a special day, chosen by Allah, making it a day of great importance and blessings.
Conclusion
This Hadith wonderfully highlights the significance of Friday (Jumu’ah) and illustrates how Allah has provided guidance to Muslims, distinguishing them from other nations that have lost their way.
It serves as a reminder that the Jumu’ah prayer and Khutbah are not mere formalities; rather, they are a precious blessing that honors the Muslim Ummah on the Day of Resurrection.
