Friday Ghusl and the Use of Perfume
Using Hair Oil and Perfume When Preparing for Friday (Jumuah) Prayer
Narrated Tawus: Ibn Abbas (RA): Mentioned the statement of the Prophet (PBUH) regarding the taking of a bath on Friday and then I asked him whether the Prophet (PBUH) had ordered perfume or (hair) oil to be used if they could be found in one's house. He (Ibn Abbas) replied that he did not know about it.
Explanation of the Hadith
This narration highlights the importance of taking a bath on Friday before heading to Jumuah prayer. Cleanliness is more than just a personal routine; it’s a vital aspect of worship in Islam.
The inquiry posed to Ibn Abbas (RA) regarding whether the Prophet (PBUH) specifically instructed the use of perfume or oil underscores the significance placed on personal grooming and the need to present oneself respectfully for worship.
While Ibn Abbas (RA) wasn’t certain about a specific command regarding perfume or oil, other Hadiths clearly endorse the idea of using pleasant scents and oils when preparing for Friday prayers.
This practice fits perfectly with the Prophet’s (PBUH) guidance to show up looking clean, fresh, and respectful when congregating in the mosque.
