Importance of Taking a Bath on Friday Before Jumuah Prayer

Narrated Yahya bin Said: I asked Amra about taking a bath on Fridays. She replied, Aishah (RA) said, The people used to work (for their livehood) and whenever they went for the Jumuah (prayer) they used to go to the mosque in the same shape as they had been in work. So they were asked to take a bath on Friday.

Explanation of the Hadith

This hadith emphasizes the significance of being clean and maintaining personal hygiene prior to participating in the Friday Jumuah prayer.

Back in the days of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), people were often busy working in fields, markets, and various laborious jobs. Consequently, they would arrive at the mosque covered in sweat and dust. 

To uphold the sanctity of the group prayer and create a more pleasant environment, they were advised to take a bath each Friday before heading to the mosque.

Cleanliness is part of faith: Islam places a strong emphasis on the importance of both spiritual and physical cleanliness. One way this principle is practiced is through the Sunnah of taking a bath before Jumuah.
